One item that stood out to me that I really like was where it talks about when getting to know your students, let them get to know about you. If you give a welcoming survey asking your students about them, the teacher should fill it out as well. The book also gives a list a questions that students would like to know about the teacher.
I think that is a really good idea because it shows that you aren’t just a teacher, you are a person too. And it shows that you aren’t there just to tell everyone what to do, you are going to be involved too. This is the same as if you do an icebreaker. As the teacher, you should be involved in this too, because being involved you will be paying more attention to what everyone is saying. Students really do want to know a little bit about the teacher’s background. The example of a survey that is given in the book is an easy survey that doesn’t ask any questions that are too personal but it gives a nice welcoming to get to know everyone.
