Fires in the Bathroom chapter 2

In this chapter, there is an exercise in it to make sure you aren’t playing favorites. Students can tell when teachers like some students more than others. And it is very clear when a teacher doesn’t get along with a student. As a student, and you know your teacher doesn’t like you, it feels like no matter what you do, you can’t get past it. This will shut down the students will to learn.
When I used to work at a summer camp, I had my favorites. This is one thing that I am going to have to leave out of the classroom. It is definitely going to be hard, especially if I have baseball players in my class. But what I can do is just make sure I ask questions to everyone, and not just the same people every time. As it says in the book, students know when you are being biased towards students. It is even uncomfortable for the student that is getting the extra attention especially if it is brought up. No one wants to be singled out, even if it is because the teacher likes you.

Good reflections. Being a summer camp counselor is a fabulous experience for future teachers. Congratulations.
